What We do
Since 1957, the KCPA has promoted the welfare of Victorians with intellectual disability, and has lobbied the community and Government to secure better services and rights
KCPA supports our members in their role as advocate for their family member. We provide information on a variety of topics through six newsletters and two information bulletins annually, and individual advice as requested
KCPA owns, operates and maintains a holiday house at Tootgarook, for use by former residents of Kew Cottages and other Victorians with intellectual disability. The purpose-built house can accommodate up to eight residents and three staff. It is used year round.
KCPA fundraises to support the activities of the organisation through the annual sale of Christmas Cards.
Who We Are
KCPA is a Victorian-based support group for parents, relatives or advocates of individuals with intellectual disability living in Community Residential Units (CRU) owned and operated by the Department of Human Services (DHS).
KCPA members include families, individuals and professionals who support high quality, appropriately-funded care for individuals with intellectual disability, and work to protect and improve their rights.
KCPA is an incorporated association governed by a volunteer committee of management and funded solely by membership fees and donations. We have a network of volunteer sub-committee members and three part-time staff members.
KCPA advocates for access to quality medical and dental care for people with intellectual disability.
KCPA opposes efforts to eliminate a full range of accommodation options for people with severe or profound intellectual disabilities, medically fragile or complex conditions and challenging behaviours.
